The Importance of Flossing

Plaque is a soft bacterial growth that is constantly forming on and between teeth.

Soft bacterial plaque is the cause of tooth decay and gum disease and should be removed daily. The Floss&Co flossing device has been designed to help you remove soft bacterial plaque from between teeth where a toothbrush can’t reach.
If soft bacterial plaque is left undisturbed on or between the teeth for longer than a day, it can turn into a hard deposit called calculus which looks and feels like lime scale found on a shower head or kettle element.
Hard calculus needs to be removed by a dentist, hygienist or therapist as it contributes to infections. They will advise you how frequently but for most people this is every 3-6 months.
The Floss&Co flossing device works best when it is used after the dental professional has given your teeth a clean and polish. It can then be used to remove soft bacterial plaque deposits daily, before they get a chance to solidify into hard calculus. Used this way, in a well maintained mouth, the prefabricated floss loop can last, on average, between 1 to 3 months.
If you find that the floss loop shreds quickly you should visit your dentist, hygienist or therapist as it could signify hard calculus buildup, untreated decay or a problem with an existing filling.
